Avid and Quantum seal storage deal

Multimedia specialist Avid and storage veteran Quantum have signed a collaboration in which users of some Avid technology will have access to Quantum’s StorNext storage manager.

The Avid technology in question is its Interplay/MAM system, according to TV Technology, and the connector between the creative environment and the storage system marks quite a step forward.

Users will now be able to move data across different tiers of Quantum’s storage more easily than before, putting them more firmly in charge of how their system works instead of the technology dictating their working patterns.

Storage management is an issue for many IT professionals, who find that a particular system and the way it works dictates where items are stored for backup or archiving. This can lead to relatively expensive media being deployed for comparatively low-level items – something which can be inefficient.

Avid has also joined the Quantum Advantage Programme.
