National Health Service technology paints a mixed picture

A report suggests that NHS England has mixed levels of maturity when it comes to its adoption of technology. Highlighted in Digital Health, 239 health authorities have reported their own levels of digital development and they are at different stages.

The picture nationally appears good on care records but less so on e-prescribing, according to the report.

The data will go to NHS England in June, so that action can happen to bring the various authorities in line with each other. Users of the service (that’s “us” in English) can check how their own authority is doing by looking at this interactive site, although it’s only a beta version for the moment.

There has been no comment as to how much of the forthcoming investment will be into private partnerships and outsourced arrangements compared to in-house implementations. Presumably there will be announcements as and when individual authorities are ready to make them.
