The Met Office has unveiled plans to procure new supercomputing services for the next five to 14 years. According to the notice, “this must deliver a substantially enhanced capacity, that is both sustainable and innovative in terms of economic, technical, social, environmental and political considerations.” The value of a potential tender has not yet been published.

One of the biggest tenders of the week comes from Yorkshire Purchasing Organisation, which is launching a framework for the provision of data centre, maintenance, security and cloud hosting services. It is estimated the framework will be worth between £50m and £400m.

Amazon Web Services won the biggest deal revealed last week: a £20m contract to supply “IT hosting and compute services” to HMRC. The contract started last month and will last for two years.
