The week in public sector tech: the biggest tenders and awards (13/07)

This is the latest instalment of an exclusive feature analysing the UK’s biggest public sector tech deals. In partnership with data analysis firm Tussell, we drill down into the top five most valuable tenders and awards from the previous week, and take stock of which tech firms have won the biggest share of the public sector pie.

Top five tenders

The Cabinet Office’s latest tender is one of the biggest IT frameworks ever established in the UK. Like the parallel G-Cloud framework, the framework for Data and Application Services lets a range of central government and public sector agencies buy solutions from a pre-approved list of suppliers. But unlike G-Cloud, each lot has just 20 places. This means suppliers will face less competition once they have been approved, but more competition to get listed in the first place. The application deadline is 6 August and the framework is due to go live in February next year.

Top five awards

The biggest single award of the week goes to Bytes Software Services. The IT reseller has won a contract to manage the provision of Windows 10 licences for NHS trusts. NHS Digital announced the deal in April as part of plans to upgrade the health service’s cyber defences in light of last year’s WannaCry attack. But it refused to disclose the value of the deal at the time, citing commercial sensitivities. The latest notice reveals it’s worth £163m.
