The new Intel processor-based Dell EMC PowerEdge R740xd offers better virtualised database performance compared to the legacy PowerEdge R720.
The pace of business is lightning fast. Technology runs faster—and customers want service even faster still. To keep up with the demands of a company in this age, you need hardware infrastructure capable of supporting large amounts of work with a more responsive customer experience. Our work in the Principled Technologies datacenter showed that the 14th generation Dell EMC™ PowerEdge™ R740xd could deliver just that.
We ran an online transaction processing (OLTP) workload on a cluster of PowerEdge
R740xd servers with VMware® vSAN® storage and the Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor,
and compared it to a 12th generation PowerEdge R720 server cluster using traditional HDD storage. We measured three key metrics: database orders processed per minute (OPM), input/output operations per second (10PS), and storage latency.
